Shop anniversary brings boost for Hospice
13 Nov 2009
The owners of a Newport coffee shop are full of beans after raising hundreds of pounds for the Earl Mountbatten Hospice. Coffee Republic, in Pyle Street, celebrated its first year in business by holding a Halloween themed day for their customers and other fundraising activities. Cash was raised by donating 10p from every cup of coffee sold, with the proceeds of a raffle, with the prize of a year’s free coffee up for grabs. Staff, who wore scary Halloween costumes, also sold hospice T-shirts, calendars, diaries and flowers and gave away double loyalty points to customers.
Abi Chiverton, who co-owns the shop with husband Steve, said the Saturday was a lot of fun and they were confident of raising at least £200 this week. She said: "It has been a fantastic year for us and we wanted to celebrate by putting something back into the community. We have had close family looked after there, it is a charity very close to our hearts."
